postcards, Fort Hartsuff

QoFB has sent a sweet postcard from Fort Hartsuff, Nebraska.

The buildings are officers’ quarters used between 1874-81.

As long as there’s A/C, it looks inviting!

  1. Those are the only years that the fort was in operation. There’s no air conditioning, but due to a lack of trees in the area and an abundance of gravel and lime the buildings are made of grout. The walls are thick which makes the buildings cool in the summer and warm in the winter. As a result, this fort was considered to be a choice posting for the army.
